Sean Dowd - Woodcarver
Sean Dowd, a native of Scituate, Massachusetts, developed a passion for woodcarving early in life, inspired by his father Jack Dowd a legendary New England federal law enforcement agent and the renowned master woodcarver Paul McCarthy. He apprenticed under McCarthy at the Carving Place in Scituate where his father was a fixture, honing his skills and embracing the exacting standards and appreciation for history that define the McCarthy tradition.
Beyond his artistic endeavors, Sean has over 17 years of experience in public service with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He has contributed to the security, stewardship, interpretation, and preservation of historic sites, including the Massachusetts State House and the Blue Hills Weather Observatory. Additionally, he served in the state parks sign shop, overseeing over 450,000 acres of forest and parkland. Sean is also a certified in plant-based nutrition and as a personal trainer.
Sean specializes in creating fine, one-of-a-kind woodcarving pieces that reflect the traditions, history and natural beauty of the New England region. Through his artistic pursuits, he aims to deliver heirloom art pieces that enhance and enliven the decorative space of the discerning client.
